Puffer Fish® Panicle Hydrangea (paniculata)

Puffer Fish® Panicle Hydrangea (paniculata)

As a larger, puffed-up version of Bobo, Puffer Fish® panicle hydrangea has white fluffy blooms that engulf the entire plant, nearly obscuring the foliage. The flowers open as a beautiful, pure white bloom, and as they age, turn lime green with a fresh sprig of white flowers blooming at the tip of the panicle. Puffer Fish has a tight, compact growing habit with upright stems strong enough to hold its voluptuous blooms all season long.

  • 3-5 feet tall and wide at maturity
  • Hardy in zones 3-8, be sure to check your USDA zone to ensure success
  • Plant in part sun (4+ hours daily) in southern climates and part to full sun in northern climates
  • Space plants 3-5 feet apart for best results
  • Produces fluffy white flowers that age to lime green from summer through fall
  • Maintains green foliage spring to frost
  • Blooms on new wood
  • Great for borders, containers, landscapes, hedges, cut or dried flowers
  • Salt tolerant, fall interest

Care:  Fertilize with Proven Winners Continuous Release Plant Food in spring and mid-summer. Prefers well-drained soil that does not remain soggy for any amount of time. To prune, simply cut back by one-third of its total height every spring, just as new growth begins to emerge on stems. Make cuts just about 1/4 of an inch above a bud. Dead or damaged wood can be removed at any time.
