Sgt. Pepper® Dogwood (Cornus alba)

Who says flowers should get all the attention? Sgt. Pepper® Dogwood flips the script with foliage so striking, it outshines everything around it—every season of the year.

Spring kicks off with a bold burst of pink and green leaves that demand a double take. As summer settles in, the color cools to a crisp white and green combo, only to heat back up in fall with fiery hot pink edges and rich burgundy centers. And just when you think it’s done, winter brings out its final flourish: bright red stems that glow against the snow.

Add in fluffy white spring blooms and you’ve got a true four-season stunner. Whether you plant it as a focal point or work it into a mixed border, Sgt. Pepper® delivers non-stop visual interest with almost no fuss.

  • 4-6 feet tall and 6-8 feet wide at maturity
  • Hardy in zones 3-7, be sure to check your USDA zone to ensure success
  • Plant in part to full sun (4+ hours daily)
  • Space plants 6-8 feet apart for best results
  • Produces white flowers in spring
  • Maintains beautiful foliage that emerges pink and green in spring and transitions to green and white in summer before exploding in fall hot pink with burgundy centers. All of this atop stems that glow bright red in winter.
  • Blooms on old wood
  • Great for landscapes, hedges, cutting gardens, borders, mass planting or as a focal point
  • Resists deer and rabbits
  • Foliage interest, fall and winter interest

Care:  Fertilize with Proven Winners Continuous Release Plant Food in spring and mid-summer.  Pruning is not strictly required. However, for best red stem coloration, prune about a third of the branches to the ground in late winter/early spring.
