Sunstar® Pink Egyptian Star Flower (Pentas lanceolata)
Sunstar Pink displays large clusters of light pink flowers on dark green foliage all season. Pentas is best grown in good, moist soil, but it can tolerate poorer soils as well. It attracts pollinators, does not require deadheading, and is disease resistant.
- 18-22 inches tall and 16-24 inches wide at maturity
- Annual except in zones 11, be sure to check your USDA zone to ensure success
- Plant in part to full sun (4+ hours daily)
- Space plants 10 inches apart for best results
- Produces blush pink flowers during planting to frost
- Maintains green foliage spring to frost
- Great for borders, containers, cut flowers, landscapes, mass plantings
- Attracts bees, butterflies, hummingbirds
- Continuous blooming, disease resistant, long blooming, heat tolerant, deadheading not necessary
Care: Pentas is best grown in good, moist soil, but it can tolerate poorer soils as well. They prefer a pH close to 7, so consider amending soil with pelletized lime if planting in an area with highly acidic soil. They are quite heat tolerant. An application of controlled release fertilizer at planting should be sufficient, but an additional application in mid-summer will help the plants thrive into Fall.
